KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Department of Road Transport (JPJ) is studying a proposal made by the police to introduce a new license category for young people aged 16 to 20 years, to only drive motorcycles with a capacity of 70 cc or less for 2025.
Its CEO, Datuk Zailani Hashim, said the matter will be discussed in detail with the Malaysian Road Safety Research Institute (Miros) and the Department of Public Works before any decision is made.
“The proposal was made due to the increase in the number of high-powered motorcyclist accidents and deaths involving youth between the ages of 16 and 20,” he said.
I was commenting on a report that the police proposed introducing a new category of youth licenses by 2025.
In another development, he said that JPJ would launch a MyQ system that can reduce customer congestion. Pilot projects will be implemented this month at selected JPJ branches.
The system would provide the convenience of customers simply browsing the website to select a queue number.
It is one of the department’s digitization efforts in line with the practice of new norms and standard operating procedures established by the National Security Council.- Bernama
