KUALA LUMPUR (May 10): Work from home (WFH) is now a permanent option, not just the motion control order (MCO) agreement, said the president and CEO of Permodalan Nasional Bhd ( PNB), Jalil Rasheed.
In his tweets Thursday, Jalil said that since the largest state fund had the WFH as a permanent option, most of the meetings would be a hybrid of virtual and in-person.
“We defied all odds by working well in the last two months virtually. Nothing prevented us from adopting flexibility permanently.
“We have come a long way in using technology, virtual meetings and digital signatures, so this momentum must continue even when staff returns,” said Jalil, PNB’s youngest president and CEO named last year at the age of 38. years.
According to him, this was part of the strategic plan that PNB presented last week, one area of focus was organizational transformation.
“People and culture are a big part of this. So this initiative fits perfectly, ”he said.
However, he added that since not all roles can be performed from home, such as drivers and security, the company offers employees the option of choosing how or where they want to work.
He said staff would be equipped with the tech hardware and will be asked to download the MySejahtera app, to make sure they can be tracked if an unfortunate incident occurs.
“We will also issue guidelines or advice to people managers on how to manage remote or split teams, answer all frequently asked questions (FAQ) and assign dedicated people to them when they have questions,” he added.
Meanwhile, he said that PNB will extend its WFH exercise until the end of May to ensure that its employees can make the necessary preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri amid the closure of schools and kindergartens.
Jalil said that since the average age of company staff is 39, many have children who go to school.
“We will be fluid for [be in] sync when schools reopen. And being so close to Hari Raya, it’s better for everyone to stay home and come back later [that],” he said.
Starting in June 2020, Jalil said, the return would be deployed for three months to ensure there aren’t too many employees in the building.
“Those who are well from home will continue to do so. Of course, anyone who wants to return to the office can [do so],” he said.
He also said that next week PNB will introduce flexitime whereby employees could choose the hours they want to work whenever they turn in.
“They can choose to work from home whenever they want. The key is trust, keeping your boss and colleagues informed. And be accessible, “he added.
