KUALA LUMPUR: Some companies in the country are unable to operate as usual due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, said Minister of Business Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said Wednesday that the country’s economy had been badly affected by the motion control order (MCO), especially in the early stages, and that it still feels the impact even under the conditional MCO.

The country’s economy had suffered billions of ringgit in losses due to the MCO in a move to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Speaking at the launch of Bank Rakyat’s new vision and mission, Wan Junaidi said that some companies are still unable to operate despite allowing parts of the economy to reopen.

He added that people have lost their jobs and livelihoods during the pandemic.

Because of this, Wan Junaidi said that it was important for government agencies and banks to understand the problems faced by this group of people / companies.

“They have to act quickly to protect the groups that are still affected by the pandemic even more, the bottom 40% (B40) of society,” he said.
