KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) confirmed that there was a cyberattack on their data network yesterday.

ATM Commander General Tan Sri Affendi Buang said the incident was detected by the Division of Cyber and Electromagnetic Defense (BSEP), as well as the ATM Cyber Defense Operations Center (CDOC).

However, he said that the attack only involved certain segments that had been placed off the network from the beginning and did not affect the actual operation of the portal.

“As soon as the attack started, BSEP and CDOC implemented data traffic segregation in order to hide the actual location of classified data and thus protect the network targeted by hackers.

“The ATM is also aware of the continuous attempts to cyberattack the information network owned by the Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) and ATM,” he said today in a statement.

Affendi said that the cybersecurity aspect of ATMs is always on standby to ensure that any threats that disrupt the defense communications network can be detected early and handled properly.

“ATM always monitors and improves cyber security aspects from time to time, especially through the role of BSEP and CDOC, which not only strengthen the defense network and monitoring of ATM communications, but also protect the strategic communications network of national defense, ”he said. .

Yesterday, the ATM web portal was believed to have been hacked by irresponsible parties by displaying indecent images on the portal around 12 noon. – Called
