SHAH ALAM: The Ministry of Higher Education will ensure that a special portfolio is established in all public universities to manage the affairs of students left off campus.

Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad (pix) said his ministry through the cooperation of all public universities and the Malaysian University Housing Council (MAPUM) has taken steps to ensure that a specific unit or portfolio is established to manage the issue of student rented houses.

She said the proposal was among 11 agendas proposed by the National Student Advisory Council (MPPK) to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in June to advocate for and empower students of higher education institutions (IPT).

“I am pleased to report here that the government accepted the proposal (special portfolio) and its implementation to realize the agenda is being actively planned based on feasibility,” he said while speaking at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Endowment Grant. Awards ceremony, here yesterday.

Noraini said a comprehensive guide was also being developed to increase the level of administrative efficiency of student affairs off campus.

“Without stopping there, the ministry has taken proactive measures through the development of the Student Home Portal that will provide a platform to connect students as tenants with the owners of the premises, advisory services and facilitate the process of finding a room. or house to rent, “she said.

Meanwhile, Noraini said her ministry was also actively implementing efforts to increase the functionality of the student registration card through the Kad Prihatin Siswa initiative.

“The ministry intends to strengthen the functions of the student registration card as a multipurpose card that works like a debit card and is equipped with facilities like electronic wallet and cashless transactions,” he said. – Called
