PUTRAJAYA: The number of Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours remained in four digits after 1,594 new cases were reported today, with three deaths recorded involving locals.

Tan Sri Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s infection count now stands at 106,690 cases, with the number of active cases at 20,643.

“Selangor recorded the highest number of daily cases today with 697, with 593 cases coming from existing clusters and detected through examinations of closed contracts that were actively carried out in the field,” he said at a press conference on the development of Covid-19 here. today.

Dr Noor Hisham said that of the newly reported cases, only three were imported cases, while the remaining 1,591 cases were local transmissions.

He said that of the total number of new cases registered today, 108 cases were related to groups detected in jails, immigration detention warehouses and prisons.

It involved the Jalan Harapan group of prisons (42 cases), the Bakti group (34 cases), the Pagar Siput group (six cases), the Tembok group (six cases), the Seberang Perai group of prisons (five cases), Pagar Bentong’s group (five cases), Tembok Gajah Cluster (four cases), Sandakan Prison Cluster (three cases) and Kolam Air Cluster (three cases), it added.

Regarding today’s three deaths, Dr. Noor Hisham said that two cases were reported in Selangor, one of which involved a 62-year-old woman with a history of diabetes and obesity, while the second death involved a 90-year-old man. years he had hypertension. , dyslipidemia and gout.
