GEORGE TOWN: A Low Risk Covid-19 Center (LRCC) has been established in Penang in preparation for the mandatory assessment for foreign workers registered with the state as of January 1.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the LRCC is currently Penang’s largest center with a capacity of up to 432 beds and will be used to treat low-risk Covid-19 patients.
“The facility has been in full operation since December 22, and patients at the center were seen 24 hours a day by medical assistants and physicians.
“They will also be reviewed by an internal medicine physician in consultation with infectious disease consultants. Patients requiring intensive care will be transferred to Pulau Pinang Hospital,” he said in his Facebook post.
Dr. Noor Hisham said the mandatory exam would be carried out by the Social Security Organization (Socso) and the state health department with the joint effort of state government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies and private companies.
He said the Health Ministry expressed its gratitude to the state government, NGOs, the police, the Malaysian Volunteer Corps (Rela) and private companies for their support in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
“A special thanks to One Hope Charity and Welfare Bhd for providing all necessary beds with disposable mattresses, pillows, sheets and pillowcases, as well as lending five units of water dispensers to the center,” he added.
Meanwhile, One Hope Charity and Welfare Bhd President Chua Sui Hau said the organization felt compelled to assist in the government’s efforts to combat the pandemic.
“It is part of the efforts of the organization to help in the effort and as a responsibility with the community,” he said.
The charity provided 450 beds and more than 10,000 disposable sheets and pillowcases for the center to use.
They also contributed around 100 cartons of mineral water and loaned coolers and water dispensers.
