KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman investigates a video that alters the handwriting of the Indonesian citizen, which the republic has considered a provocative act.

Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said that the CID Special Investigation Unit and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) were investigating the case.

“We are investigating under Section 4 (1) (b) of the Sedition Act of 1948 and Section 233 (1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998.

“Severe measures will be taken against the guilty based on existing laws,” he said on Monday (December 28).

The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta strongly condemned the video which it considers an act of provocation, which could affect ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.

In a statement released on Sunday night (December 27), the embassy confirmed that Malaysian authorities were investigating the video, which is said to have been uploaded by a Malaysian.

The video, uploaded two weeks ago in the comments section of the YouTube page My Asean, features the Indonesian national anthem with altered lyrics that insults the republic.
