JAKARTA: The Malaysian embassy in Jakarta has condemned an alleged provocative act via video that could affect ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.

In a statement last night, the embassy confirmed that Malaysian authorities were investigating the video insulting Indonesia, which is said to have been uploaded by a Malaysian.

“If the video is found to be uploaded by a Malaysian citizen, severe action will be taken based on existing laws,” the statement said.

The video, uploaded two weeks ago by an individual in the comments section of the YouTube page “My Asean”, features the Indonesian national anthem with edited lyrics insulting the republic.

Since then, the video has been removed.

However, it had already been uploaded and shared widely on other social media platforms in Indonesia, prompting a strong backlash from its citizens.
