Bukit Aman’s narcotics chief says officers and staff involved in the ketum sale will be charged in court or transferred.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 327 officers and other personnel involved in drug-related activities under “Op Duri” from January to October this year.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Razarudin Husain said that based on intelligence gathered and complaints, arrests showed a downward trend compared to 566 people arrested last year.

“The department always carries out various operations, including ‘Op Duri’, formerly known as ‘Op Blue Devil’, to curb the involvement of police and personnel in drug abuse.

“Of the total, 18 people were arrested for drug trafficking, 74 for drug possession, 225 for testing positive for drugs in urine tests and 10 under Special Preventive Measures (LLPN),” he told reporters today.

Razarudin said that the decrease in arrests, also made during the execution of the conditional motion control order, showed that the police did not take lightly the involvement of their officers and staff in such activities.

“I cannot deny that there are police and personnel involved in the sale of ketum, a crime under the Poison Law, and we have received complaints about such activity,” he said, adding that action would be taken, either by accusing them in court, or transferring them.

“I urge all officers and personnel involved in such activities to repent.”

When asked what would happen to the seized drugs, he said the drugs would become evidence until the cases were resolved.

“When the drugs are returned to the police, the department will make the disposal following the process approved by the Department of the Environment based on the Environmental Quality Act of 1974,” he said.
