JOHOR BARU (Bernama): Eighteen people are believed to have entered and walked in the Panti Forest Reserve, Kota Tinggi without a permit on December 20.

The Johor Forest Department said it had received a complaint about illegal entry and hiking activity from the group of people by email and found photos of their events on a Facebook page titled “Austin Glenn-Hiking Johor.”

Following this, he filed a police report and urged the hikers involved to give a statement to the Kota Tinggi Ranger Bureau within a week, before taking further action under the law.

“For public information, the Panti Forest Reserve hiking and recreation area is under the administration or supervision of the department, and it is suspected that the participants of the walk entered the forest reserve without a permit.

“This action is a crime under Section 47 of Law 313 (National Forestry Act 1984) which is punishable by a fine not to exceed RM10,000 or a jail term of not more than three years or both, in conviction case, “the Johor Forest Department posted on its Facebook page on Sunday (December 27).

He advised the public to follow the law and regulations when entering any forest reserve, adding that any hiking or recreational activity there would require a valid permit first.

Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Hussin Zamora, when contacted, confirmed receiving the report on December 25 and said it would be forwarded to Batu Ampat Police Station as the incident occurred in the area. – Bernama
