PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo) warned patients seeking treatment at healthcare facilities not to lie to those on the front line when they are being screened for Covid-19.
“Don’t lie to the front line. We must also be protected, we have family and friends.
“Don’t betray the front line,” the Health Director-General posted on Facebook on Sunday (December 27).
Dr. Noor Hisham had shared a Facebook post from Dr. Nur Marini Zainal, who had detailed her experience dealing with a patient who had concealed a history of illness when he was examined before an appointment for a CT scan.
“A patient arrived at the hospital and was examined at the entrance of the department before undergoing a CT scan. The temperature was normal. The patient admitted to being healthy and was allowed to enter.
“I was the doctor who prepared the patient for the scan. I was surprised to see that the patient’s lungs shown on the CT scan resemble (those of) a Covid-19 patient,” he said.
Dr. Nur Marini said that when the patient was probed, the patient admitted to having a cough and fever for a week, but felt better enough to make the appointment for the CT scan.
“The patient’s action caused problems for others. The patient was confirmed positive for Covid-19 two days later, ”he published.
Dr. Nur Marini said she was previously classified as a low-risk contact because she had worn surgical masks during treatment, but because she was in close contact with the patient, she decided to have a swab test to be sure.
“I decided to quarantine myself even though I had no symptoms. But I worked in the department for two days before the quarantine.
“My results were positive. I cried when I found out,” he said.
Dr. Nur Marini said she was saddened to have been separated from her husband and children, and was concerned that she had infected family members and colleagues.
“My patient’s attitude bothered me. Please don’t lie to us if you have any symptoms,” he posted, adding that he had begged patients not to lie to healthcare workers if they had experienced any symptoms.
“Your actions will affect other patients, other healthcare workers and their families. We are also human,” he said.
