COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health reported 2,335 new cases today, a new record.

The previous record was 2,234 cases on December 10.

Today’s record number of cases was driven by an increase in infections in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor.

Main indicators:

  • Active cases: 20,035 ↑ (1,459 more than the previous day)
  • ICU patients: 108 (unchanged from the previous day)
  • Intubated patients: 50 ↑ (3 more than the previous day)
  • Deaths: 2

The two deaths were:

Patient 100,538 – Malaysian woman, 44 years old. Remains taken to Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sabah. He had a history of obesity and dyspepsia.

Patient 101,553 – Malaysian male, 70 years old. Died in the Malacca Hospital. He had a history of diabetes, hypertension, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.

Of the new cases, 308 were from prisons, dungeons and immigration warehouses.

The majority of the new Kuala Lumpur case (93 percent) came from clusters and close contact tracing.

In Selangor, 114 new cases were detected through “other examinations”. According to data from the Selangor Health Department, 39 cases of people with symptoms were detected.

Eight were detected after undergoing voluntary screening, seven were detected at the screening before assuming a new job, four at the pre-departure screening, four at the preoperative, and one at the pre-university.
