CITY OF GEORGE: Penang police officers arrested a drug syndicate with the arrest of two local men and the seizure of 573 kilograms (kg) of various drugs, worth RM25.87 million, in a series of raids in Nibong Tebal, nearby from here, over a period of three days from last Monday.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said the raids, carried out after public notices and police intelligence work, led to the arrest of the first suspect in a car in Taman Perindustrian Nibong Tebal, near here.
“The 37-year-old man was in a Peugeot car which stopped in an alley between the store premises (Nibong Tebal Industrial Park) and a search of his car found 100 packages of syabu worth RM4.67 million.
“Investigations found that the man, who is the brain of the drug syndicate, was waiting for his clients there to sell the syabu, which was sold in the form of packets of Chinese herbal tea,” he said today at a press conference here. .
He said that after the man’s arrest, the police were taken to another store, also in the area of Nibong Tebal Industrial Park, where various types of drugs were found, such as syabu, ecstasy powder, ecstasy pills, heroin base and ketamine. , for a value of 21 RM. 19 million were seized.
The store was used to store the drugs, he added.
Sahabudin said police arrested the second suspect, 43, also in Nibong Tebal.
The seized drugs were found to have been smuggled into the country by land from Thailand and were in transit at Nibong Tebal before being shipped to the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor markets, he said.
He said that along with the drugs, the police also seized a car, cash and jewelry.
Regarding the suspects, he said that the second was an online merchant, while the first suspect, an unemployed person who tested positive for drugs, had three prior records and that they were in pretrial detention for seven days for drug trafficking.
