PETALING JAYA: A new online survey on new rules and practices by the Health Ministry has revealed that the majority of Malaysians follow social distancing rules and wear face masks.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the main goal of the survey was to identify new norms and practices within the community and to enable community empowerment among family, friends and individuals to practice new norms in the country.

“The survey result shows that the majority of respondents continue to practice self-control

in reducing the spread of Covid-19, where 93.3% use masks, 89.6% practice social distancing, while 89.7% agreed to wash their hands with soap or disinfectants, “said in a statement the Friday (December 25).

The online survey, which was conducted from November 25-30, 2020, involved a total of 26,841 respondents.

The survey also found that 93.8% of respondents will tell their relatives to wear face masks, 90.1% of respondents will tell their relatives to practice self-distancing, while 90.8% They will tell family members to wash their hands with soap or hand sanitizer.

Over 82.2% of respondents will tell their friends to wear masks, followed by 79.4% of respondents will tell their friends to practice social distancing, and 79.2% of respondents will tell their friends who wash their hands with soap or hand sanitizer.

However, when it comes to comments or criticisms from other people, only 57.3% of respondents will tell others to wear face masks, only 59.6% of respondents will tell others to practice the social distancing and about 56.7% of respondents will ask others to wash their hands with soap or hand sanitizers.

“The result of the survey showed a positive and encouraging response.

“It shows that the Malaysian public has high self-control. Every change starts with each individual and is the first step to success, including success in the Covid-19 pandemic war.

“So, let’s work together to stop the spread of Covid-19,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.
