SHAH ALAM: A witness in Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan’s murder trial told the Supreme Court today that the case changed from sudden death to murder after initial notification of the incident by firefighters on 18 June 2018.

Abdul Rahim Taha, 59, from the Damansara Police Station, said the initial notification, in the form of a letter from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said the incident in Nazrin’s room was arson.

“It said: ‘Arson case, two-story townhouse. The initial investigation found the case of arson. Investigate the case in accordance with sections 435, 436 and 438 of the Penal Code so that any person (responsible) can be charged in court. ‘”

The 33rd witness was answering questions from Deputy Prosecutor Siti Rohaida Che Hamid, before Judge Ab Karim Ab Rahman, about Nazrin’s death.

Rahim said that he was later ordered by his superior to submit the investigation documents and the notification letter to the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters for further action.

“The case was turned over to ASP Mohd Nizam Daud of the Criminal Investigation Department and then classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said.

In yesterday’s trial, Rahim, in his witness statement, said that the initial police investigation had classified Nazrin’s death as sudden death. This was before the autopsy at Kuala Lumpur Hospital concluded that the victim died of a complication from an explosion.

On March 12, 2019, Nazrin’s wife, Samirah Muzaffar, 45, a former senior executive of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation, two teenagers aged 17 and 14, and an Indonesian who is still at large, Eka Wahyu Lestari , were accused of killing Nazrin. .

They were accused of committing the act in a house in Mutiara Damansara between 11:30 p.m. on June 13, 2018 and 4 a.m. on June 14, 2018.

The trial will continue on January 15.
