PETALING JAYA: The Department of Road Transport (JPJ) will make 13 more services related to commercial vehicles available as of May 11.

However, services related to private vehicles will only resume at a later date.

The 13 new services include the renewal of the motor vehicle tax (LKM) for electronic transport, taxis or rental vehicles, as well as the renewal of the professional driver’s license (PSV) for these types of vehicles.

JPJ will also process transactions related to new business vehicle registrations; commercial vehicle ownership change and various applications, including for classic or vintage status; modification of commercial vehicles and A16 (weight and dimension).

Requests at RTD headquarters for weight certification; vehicle technical plan; headlight installation; PE or consultant registry; Component Type Approval (CTA) and Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) will also be available.

Counter operations will only be carried out on business days from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., while transactions after 11 a.m. will be limited to electronic payment.

“The public is encouraged to use electronic payment methods (debit or credit card),” the JPJ said in a statement on Friday (May 8).

He said that the reopening of its services during the conditional movement control order (MCO) period focused on commercial vehicles to support the continuity of economic activities.

Private vehicle drivers are reminded that they are exempt from renewing their road tax during the MCO, as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on March 24.

“The public can drive their vehicles even if their motor vehicle license has expired during the MCO as long as their vehicle insurance remains valid,” he added.
