MANILA: The Philippine government said on Wednesday that it would suspend all flights from Britain after the emergence of a new strain of the rapidly spreading coronavirus detected there, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday night approved the temporary suspension of all flights from Britain from 12:01 a.m. on December 24, 2020 to December 31, 2020, said presidential spokesman Harry Roque in a release.
He said that all passengers who have been in Britain within the 14 days immediately prior to arrival in the Philippines, including those who are simply in transit, are also temporarily restricted from entering the country for the same period.
Meanwhile, passengers already in transit from Great Britain and all those who have been to Great Britain within the 14 days immediately prior to their arrival in the Philippines, arriving before 12:01 am on December 24, do not they will be subject to entry restrictions, but will be required to undergo stricter testing and quarantine protocols, Roque said.
