Security forces are rolling out barbed wire fences in the old town of Petaling Jaya, near the local wet market in Jalan Othman.

A police officer Malaysiakini spoke to indicated that there would also be road closures and roadblocks layered around the area.

Previously, the PJ Old Town market had closed in late April after a trader tested positive for Covid-19, which was linked to the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market cluster.

Specific tests were then carried out, which yielded 23 positive cases linked to the PJ Old Town market as of May 5, according to the Ministry of Health.

It is unclear if the area will be placed under an improved motion control order.

When contacted, the National Security Center hotline said an announcement would be made later today if the area is closed.

Previously, the authorities had established barbed wire barricades to place two areas in Selayang and one in Chow Kit, without declaring that these are improved MCO areas.

“In certain areas, we strengthen administrative control,” said Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
