Microsoft has released a hotfix for an issue related to the Check Disk (ChkDsk) utility that has recently caused SSD issues. According to Microsoft, the bug that led to ChkDsk turning SSDs into BSOD was introduced with update KB4592438 which was part of Windows 10 2H20 patch.

In short, running ChkDsk on the latest version of Windows 10 on an SSD could cause the storage medium to corrupt the data on it, instead of fixing it. The utility is decades old and was designed to work on older hard disk drives (HDDs), but that said, it shouldn’t be the case.

At the time of writing this article, Microsoft says that all affected unmanaged devices will receive the fix within 24 hours. That said, if you’re in a rush to install the solution, the company says that rebooting your machine should speed up the process.

For those who cannot boot Windows 10 from their SSD, there is a workaround that you can get from the source below. Suffice it to say, the process is long, but it should ultimately make your Windows 10 system work as usual.
