Uggah appears to be in good spirits at today’s Covid-19 update press conference, after resuming his duties and recovering from a minor operation last month.

KUCHING (December 22): Sarawak did not register new cases of Covid-19 today, said the president of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who resumed his duties today after being on medical leave since on November 17 after a minor operation to unblock an artery.

He was supposed to take a two-week extended leave from December 18 until the end of the year, and when asked by reporters, he only replied that he missed everyone and thanked everyone for their prayers.

Speaking at the regular press conference for Covid-19 updates, Uggah, who is also a senior deputy minister, reported that the total number of positive cases in the state remains unchanged at 1,090.

“There were four cases of recoveries and discharges today from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“As of today, 1,060 or 97.25 percent of all cases have been recovered or discharged.

“A total of 11 cases continue to be treated in the isolation rooms of the hospitals. Of that, seven are at SGH, three at Sibu Hospital and one at Miri Hospital, ”he said.

Uggah added that there were two new People Under Investigation (PUI) reported for the day, both still awaiting the results of their lab tests.

This brings the cumulative total of PUI to 11,073 to date.

As for people under surveillance (PUS), there were 375 people who checked into the quarantine centers designated for their mandatory quarantine on Tuesday. This brings the current PUS total to 4,481 people at 42 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centers across the state.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period number 42,444.

Sibu and Kuching districts remain as yellow zones, as three cases of local transmission were reported in the last 14 days, with two cases in Sibu and one in Kuching. The other 36 districts remain green.

Without reports of deaths, the death toll in the state remains unchanged at 19 or 1.74 percent of all cases.
