MIRI (Dec 21): PKR Sarawak leaders have rejected Larry Sng’s decision to step down as president just to allow a Dayak to take power before next year’s state elections.

PKR Vice President Roland Engan said that PKR is a multiracial party and they disagreed with his decision even though the Dayak are the majority in Sarawak.

“We, the leaders of PKR Sarawak will meet with him as soon as possible. To this day, all the leaders still support him as president, ”he told The Borneo Post.

Roland had previously said that Sng’s decision to resign was not discussed by party leaders before the announcement.

Sng, who is a deputy for Julau, had announced his decision to resign on his Facebook page this morning.

He said he would soon discuss the matter with PKR president Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim about who should replace him and the leadership transition.

Sng said the decision was made in the best interest of PKR Sarawak to be led by a Dayak who will be heading into the upcoming state elections, as the Dayaks represent 43 percent of the population with Malay and 24 percent Chinese representation. only.

He said it was ironic that the poorest and least developed areas of the state are within rural districts of Dayak.

He believed his move would give the party more credibility in its fight against economic inequalities in the private sector, inequalities in selection and promotion in public service, and its determination to address the problems of traditional native lands.

Sng was appointed to the post last March following the departure of Selangau MP and Ba Kelalan Assemblyman Baru Bian.
