Liverpool legend John Barnes was unhappy with Sadio Mane’s response to being substituted in the Reds’ 7-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, saying the forward’s reaction “is not how it shows. hunger”.
Mane scored and provided an assist in the victory, but was unimpressed when Jurgen Klopp replaced him with Mohamed Salah in the 57th minute.
Roberto Firmino scored a double and also provided an assist in his best showing of the season so far and Barnes praised the Brazilian on Twitter for “coming out the right way.”
When asked about Firmino’s performance, Barnes wrote: “And it comes out in the right way !!”
A Liverpool fan responded to Barnes’ tweet, writing: “Can’t try to make Mane mad coming out of Barnsey, you want hungry players, not listless!”

Barnes then broadened his stance, adding, “But there is a way to show your disgust … that’s not how you show hunger … you do it by doing what it certainly is.
He later admitted that he wasn’t “too concerned” about Mane’s reaction, saying the forward was “a good boy.”
Klopp was also asked about the incident and told BT Sport: “I was not angry that Mo came in, I was not happy because he took a look at the clock (time) and maybe it was the free kick, I don’t know exactly, maybe it was that he did not stay on the field of play until after the free kick.
“But, guys, you can’t play soccer like a simple soldier and do everything the boss says.”
Klopp then quickly added: “They do what I say, but they are human beings and they react in specific ways. After the game, Sadio was completely fine. Everything is fine.”
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer touched on Mane’s reaction in the match of the day and admitted that he can understand why the forward was frustrated.
Shearer said: “Well, he’s playing really well, scoring goals, getting assists and you can see Jurgen Klopp saying that his players are playing too much football. That’s the difference between the players and what he thinks.”
“There were goals at stake and I wanted to get the ball into the back of the net.”
