PETALING JAYA: The Jasin Correctional Center in Melaka and its staff units will be under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from tomorrow through January 4.
Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made on the advice of the Health Ministry, following an increase in Covid-19 cases at the center in a short period of time.
In a statement, Ismail said the Health Ministry had conducted 1,251 tests at the center as of December 19, and 133 tested positive.
“EMCO will involve 771 people, including 603 detainees and 168 staff members, as well as family members,” he said.
Ismail added that EMCO’s rules are the same as with any other area under strict lockdowns. Family visits will be prohibited for the next two weeks.
On the daily enforcement against those who committed MCO-related crimes, Ismail said 239 people were arrested yesterday by the police, of whom 238 received compound fines and one in pretrial detention.
The crimes included not wearing face masks, failing to provide contact tracing and recording materials, failing to practice physical distancing, and participating in activities at entertainment centers.
A total of 2,683 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.
Ismail also said that the police detained 25 undocumented immigrants and seized three vehicles under Ops Benteng.
It added that 89,787 people had arrived via KLIA between July 24 and December 20 from various countries.
A total of 532 people tested positive and were sent to the hospital for treatment, while 81,411 were able to return home.
Some 7,844 people are currently in mandatory quarantine.
