Covid-19: 2k more cases, surpassing the 95k mark now! (updated)

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,018 more Covid-19 infections on Monday (December 21), bringing the country’s total confirmed cases to 95,327.

One person died from the coronavirus, bringing Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll to 438.

Also on Monday, 1,084 Covid-19 patients were discharged, meaning 78,393 people have recovered.

The number of people with active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia is now 16,496, said Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Currently, 109 patients are in intensive care, and 55 require respiratory assistance, he said at a news conference here on Monday.

He added that seven of Monday’s cases were imported infections, while the rest were local transmissions.

Dr. Noor Hisham also said that Selangor continues to post the largest increase of the day of any state with 1,204 confirmed cases, or 59.7% of Monday’s total.

Johor follows with 278 or 13.8% of cases, and Sabah with 247 cases (12.2%).

243 new cases were reported from groups of detention centers and prisons, representing about 12% of Monday’s count.

This includes the Tembok Gajah group which saw 234 new cases.

The number of new local cases in the remaining states is as follows:

Kuala Lumpur (127 cases), Negri Sembilan (58), Labuan (29), Perak (21), Penang (18), Pahang (12), Melaka (nine), Kelantan (six), Putrajaya (five), Kedah ( three) and Terengganu (one).

Only Sarawak and Perlis registered zero new cases.

On Monday’s only death, Dr. Noor Hisham said the deceased was a 50-year-old foreign man who passed away at Tuaran Hospital in Sabah.

The man had no known history of comorbidities.
