KL cops arrest 11 for illegal gambling

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten Chinese citizens and one Malaysian were arrested after raids on illegal gambling centers in Jalan Conlay here.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said police, acting on a tip, raided a serviced residence in Jalan Conlay around 2 am on Sunday (December 20).

“We arrested five Chinese and one Malaysian in the housing unit.

“We also seized 94 cell phones and three laptops,” he said when contacted Sunday.

A further investigation led police to another unit in the same residence with services at 2.20 am, where five more Chinese men were detained, it added.

“Several items were seized, including 96 mobile phones and two laptops,” he said.

ACP Zainal said that those arrested, aged 21 to 34, have been placed in preventive detention.

“We are investigating the matter under the Open Play House Act and the Immigration Act.

“We will continue these operations to eradicate illegal gambling in the Dang Wangi area,” he added.

ACP Zainal urged the public’s cooperation in channeling information about illegal gambling in the district.

“Those with information should contact the Dang Wangi Police Hotline at 03-2600 2222 or the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the nearest police station,” he said.
