KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 35 foreign women, believed to have been exploited by their employers, were rescued after the raids in Melaka and Petaling Jaya.
Four suspects, including three employers, will face a total of 70 charges on Monday (December 21).
Bukit Aman Director of the CID Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed (Photo) It said police carried out five raids in Melaka Tengah on November 12 and rescued 32 Indonesian women and one Cambodian, while two other Indonesian women were rescued after a raid in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
“Those rescued admitted to working for a cleaning services agency, which serviced houses in Melaka.
“Victims between the ages of 18 and 40 have been working for the agency since 2018 at salaries of between RM900 and RM1,200 a month,” he said in a statement on Sunday (December 20).
However, investigations revealed that the victims were not paid as promised and were also confined to their workers’ rooms without access to mobile phones, it added.
“We also arrested three local women, who are the employees along with a local male accomplice,” he said.
Comm Huzir said the investigation document was forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office on December 16.
“The four suspects will be indicted in the Melaka Tengah Session Court on Monday.
“They will face a total of 70 charges of various crimes, including article 12 of the Law Against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (Atipsom),” he added.
Comm Huzir reminded the public not to exploit anyone for the sake of profit.
“We will crack down on anyone who exploits others.
“We also urge anyone with information to contact Bukit Aman CID Atipsom (D3) division at 03-26101510 or any nearest police station,” he said.
