3 New Covid-19 Clusters Detected in KL, Sabah, Johor

Contact tracing of people close to confirmed Covid-19 patients is underway.

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected three new Covid-19 clusters in the country during the last 24 hours.

In a statement, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are the Metropolis construction site group in Kuala Lumpur, the Estate Maju group in Sabah and the Batu 39 group in Johor.

The Metropolis group of construction sites was detected in Kepong, and the index case tested positive on December 14 after a workplace assessment. A total of 481 people have been tested and 147 tested positive.

The Estate Maju group involves Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Tuaran districts in Sabah, with the first case testing positive on December 8 after showing symptoms. Some 63 people have been tested and 28 tested positive.

The Batu 39 cluster was detected in Pontian and the index case tested positive on December 18 after a specific workplace assessment. A total of 152 people related to the group have been tested, of which 28 tested positive.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said that three other groups had officially ended today, namely the Saga, Tatahan and Sakti groups in Sabah. There are 199 groups still active, of which 44 reported new infections today.

The conglomerates with the highest increase in cases are the Metropolis construction works conglomerate (140 cases), the Ceram conglomerate (107) and the Jalan Harapan prison conglomerate (58).
