GEORGE TOWN: More than 1,000 residents living in Desa Bistari Flats, Batu Uban here, where the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) has been extended until December 31st, are seeking food aid as they have been badly affected by EMCO .

The president of the Desa Bestari Residents Association, Md Yusry Yusoff, said that the food aid received from NGOs and leaders previously was not enough as they had to share it.

“Yes, we receive food aid where the packages were delivered to residents of Blocks A and B, such as the elderly and single mothers who lost their livelihood.

“Yesterday, the government announced that the EMCO was extended and this has caused those who make a living as small merchants, food delivery people and paid workers daily lose income because they cannot work,” he said when contacted today.

Yusry said residents there, especially the elderly, needed basic items like rice, eggs, sardines, cookies and sugar.

“We welcome food contributions from anyone who is willing to help reduce the burden on residents here. You can reach me at 017-4204122, ”he said.

The EMCO includes flats in Persiaran Paya Terubong, Relau and Flat Desa Bistari Blok A and B, Batu Uban.

Yesterday, the Chief Minister of Security, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, announced that the EMCO for the two locations was being expanded with the advice and risk assessment carried out by the health ministry.
