MELAKA: The President of the State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Wira Omar Jaafar, is prepared to face any attempt to unceremoniously remove him from office during the brief procedures scheduled for Monday (May 11).

He said he hoped there would be an unprecedented movement to expel him even though he had rejected the motion brought about it by legislators from the ruling state government.

“I will stand firm. Any attempt to expel me must be made in accordance with the procedural rules and standing orders of the august house,” he said in an interview on Saturday (May 9).

Omar reiterated that he was elected to office in mid-2018 by a democratically elected state government.

“Therefore, I should be given the opportunity to fulfill the full mandate together with my deputy Datuk Dr. Wong Fort Pin,” he said.

Omar said he only expected two of the six motions to be filed during the two-hour procedure on May 11.

He said that one of these motions was to debate the effect of Covid-19 on the state and the other was to elect a Umno division chief as senator.

“I don’t understand why there was an abrupt move to file a motion to remove me in proceedings so short that they should be used to debate crucial issues,” he said.
