KUALA LUMPUR: Open houses and carol activities along with Christmas celebrations are not allowed across the country, says Chief Minister (security group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said this was one of the standard operating procedures for the festival which also stipulates that visiting the homes of others is only allowed on the first day (December 25) in areas where the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) are being enforced.
“Christians are only allowed to hold prayer ceremonies on December 24 and 25 in the areas under RMCO and CMCO,” he said today at a press conference here.
He said Christmas celebrations were allowed to take place in the land residences on the first day, with no more than 20 guests including only close family members.
Ismail Sabri said that for landless strata properties with an area of less than 1,500 square feet, the number of guests should not exceed 10, while for houses with an area of 2,500 square feet or more, the maximum number is fifteen .
Commenting further on SOP in places of worship during the festival, Ismail Sabri said that screening counters should be installed at the entrances, as well as limiting the number of attendees.
He said that on December 24, the prayer ceremony should take place between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in just two sessions, lasting one hour 30 minutes per session, with a 45-minute break for sanitation work. before starting a new session.
“On December 25, the prayer ceremony should be held between 7 am and 1.45 pm in three sessions (one hour 30 minutes per session) with a 45 minute break for sanitation work before starting a new session”, said.
He said prayer ceremonies in minor basilicas, cathedrals, churches and chapels must fully comply with previously issued SOPs for places of worship, subject to the size of the venue, maintaining physical distancing at all times.
Meanwhile, he said that prayer ceremonies and pilgrimage activities were not allowed in areas subject to the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), and that families could only celebrate the event in their own homes.-Called
