Hong Jin Young apologized after Chosun University reached the tentative conclusion of plagiarism regarding his master’s thesis.
In November, Hong Jin Young’s master’s thesis was reported to be under suspicion of plagiarism, and the thesis was reported to score 74 percent on the plagiarism review site “Copy Killer.” His agency denied the claims.
As the accusations continued to spread, Hong Jin Young released a statement in which he said, “Organize my time, I consulted with the professor and did my best to create the thesis. Even though it went smoothly at the time, now people say that he is being judged by one percentage or another, and I am disappointed and frustrated that everything he says now will sound like an excuse. “He stated that he had decided to give up his titles master’s and doctorate.
On December 15, a Research Integrity Committee of the Ethics Committee of Chosun University issued the tentative plagiarism judgment regarding Hong Jin Young’s master’s thesis. They sent it to the Graduate School Committee, which had given Hong Jin Young until 5 p.m. KST on December 18 to present an explanation. The Graduate School Committee will make a final decision on whether or not plagiarism occurred through a meeting on December 23rd. If this officially determines that she plagiarized, then both her Master’s and Ph.D. will be automatically canceled.
Hong Jin Young shared the following letter on his Instagram on December 18:
Hello, I am Hong Jin Young.
It’s too late and I know I can’t undo anything. However, I am writing because I want to sincerely apologize and apologize, even if it is at this time.
The day he returned with a new song, a report came out about the thesis plagiarism. I was so scared of what I should say and my mind went blank.
I think even then, I couldn’t let go of my greed … I was so scared because I felt like I wouldn’t be able to get back on stage if I admitted to plagiarism.
So I was busy trying to justify myself by saying things like, ‘The teacher said there was no problem’ and ‘I’m not going to give a lecture with my degree.’ It was because I was afraid that everything in my life so far would seem like a lie.
I even had the languid thought that if I gave up my title, then maybe people would let it go, maybe they would forgive me. So I used the expression “convention”. Maybe he was just thinking about finding a way out.
If a mistake is made, one should properly apologize and be punished for it … Instead of reflecting, he was busy making excuses. I couldn’t act in a mature or adult way. I made a mistake.
I will accept Chosun University’s tentative plagiarism finding and deeply regret it. I have also acted very disrespectful to people who are even now working day and night on their master’s and doctoral theses. I’m sorry. I admit it all and will reflect.
I have received more love than I deserve. Now I will return that love while spending time reflecting on myself and doing good and meaningful things.

Prior to this, Hong Jin Young had a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Commerce, and a PhD in Business Administration from Chosun University.
