KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 5,142 of the total of 70,689 complaints received by the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumption (KPDNHEP) since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18 were related to the increase in the prices of goods.

“As a result of the monitoring and inspections, 4,743 notices were issued under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti Profit Act (AKHAP) of 2011 to traders who increased the price of goods,” he said.
He said so at a press conference when announcing the 2020 Christmas Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) via KPDNHEP’s Facebook page today.
On the increase in onion prices, Nanta said 302 product information confirmation notices had been issued to merchants that were found to have increased the price of products at all levels of retailers, wholesalers and importers.
“This is to allow KPDNHEP to detect the cause of the increase and investigate whether there is any profit activity between any of these traders,” he said, adding that KPDNHEP seriously considered the uncontrollable price increases, including the issue of onion prices.
Nanta said that KPDNHEP had also monitored onion supply involving 2,711 selected retailers and 1,039 selected wholesalers.
“The results of the daily monitoring at the national level yesterday at the retail and wholesale level showed that the supply of onions in the market is located at 98 percent,” he said.
He said that KPDNHEP also held engagement sessions with various agencies, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, to learn more about imported products and to detect whether there was a reduction in imported products. -Called
