UPDATE: The CD Projekt Board has commented on Sony’s decision to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, noting “[t]The decision was made after our discussion with [Sony Interactive Entertainment] regarding a full refund for all players who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 through the PlayStation Store and want a refund at this time. “

“All copies of the game previously digitally purchased from the PlayStation Store remain available for use by their respective purchasers,” confirmed CD Projekt in its statement. “Players can still purchase physical versions of the game in retail and mail order stores.”

CD Projekt also stated that all digital and physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077 “will continue to receive support and updates.”

The original story continues below:

Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that it will provide refunds to Cyberpunk 2077 players on PS4 (or PS5 through backward compatibility) for purchasing the game. But the platform owner is going one step further and removing Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store for digital purchase “until further notice.”

On a recently posted refund-related page, SIE confirmed its intentions to offer full refunds to all players who purchased Cyberpunk through the PS Store, while also pledging to remove the game for the time being. The company’s full statement reads:

“SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, which is why we will begin offering a full refund for all players who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 through the PlayStation Store. SIE will also remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store until further notice.

“Once we have confirmed that you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 through the PlayStation Store, we will begin processing your refund. Please note that the completion of the refund may vary depending on your payment method and financial institution.”

Sony’s announcement follows the messy message from the Cyberpunk 2077 launch, which included a significant performance gap between the PC and PS4 / Xbox One versions of the game, the latter of which was not shown running on hardware pre-release. basic. Following the release of Cyberpunk, CDPR apologized for the console versions.

“… We would like to begin by apologizing to you for not showing the game on the next generation base consoles before its release and consequently not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to make it work better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, “the statement read. In parallel, CDPR said that players could request refunds for the console versions if they were not satisfied, however, there was no official news from Microsoft or PlayStation about respecting them at that time.

While there were reports that some players received refunds even before CDPR’s apology, after this, it appeared that no special agreement had been reached between CDPR and the platform holders at the time. Widespread reports of players, including some from IGN staff, who were unable to request refunds correctly due to platform policies began to spread. IGN had reached out to CDPR at the time for comment, but Sony’s offer of refunds and the complete removal of the game from the store is the first official word we’ve heard about the company’s policy toward launching Cyberpunk. .

Prior to launch, IGN had only played the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077, which we praised in our review, but after its release, IGN separately reviewed the Cyberpunk 2077 console versions, saying “If your only option now is to play Cyberpunk 2077 on either of the two base console platforms, I suggest you don’t play the game until its many terrible performance issues are fixed. And if you’ve already bought it and had an experience similar to the one I’ve described, you should definitely get a refund if possible. “
