4 captured after impersonating MACC officers, DPP

MACC is now on the hunt for a suspicious woman.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested four men for posing as their superior officers and also as a Deputy Prosecutor (DPP) to solicit bribes, purportedly to help resolve cases the commission is investigating.

Three of them, including the mastermind known as “Dato Roy,” who claimed to be a MACC director, were arrested in a raid at a hotel here around 4:30 pm yesterday.

The fourth suspect was arrested at his home in Melaka at 8:30 pm yesterday. MACC is now looking for another suspicious woman.

The four, aged 39 to 54, included a business owner and director. They have been in pre-trial detention for six days until December 22 to facilitate the MACC investigation.

The remand order was issued today by Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim here.

According to a MACC source, the four men were said to have requested a bribe allegedly to change the charge against the complainant in the case to a lesser offense, as well as to lift a bank account freeze.

“The intelligence results found that members of the group enter the MACC headquarters compound to take pictures of themselves to convince the victims that they are MACC agents,” said the source, adding that their movements had been recorded by cameras. CCTV at headquarters.

The source said MACC has found out the identity of the woman who is also a member of the group and is tracking her.

MACC intelligence director Azmi Kamaruzaman, who confirmed the arrests, said the case was being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act.

He advised the public to be wary of people posing as MACC officers to solicit bribes allegedly to help solve MACC cases.
