1,220 new cases of Covid-19, three deaths today

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,220 Covid-19 cases, along with 1,297 recoveries and three deaths were reported in the country during the last 24 hours.

Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that with the new figures, Malaysia has recorded a total of 89,133 positive cases, with 14,671 of them active.

“Of the new cases, six were imported involving people who were infected abroad and the remaining 1,214 were local transmissions,” he said today in a statement.

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of daily new cases with 368, followed by Kuala Lumpur (297) and Sabah (184).

Furthermore, 135 of the new cases were linked to prison groups, namely the Jalan Harapan prison group (98 cases), the Tembok group (36 cases) and the Seberang Perai prison group (one case ), said Dr. Noor Hisham.

Meanwhile, the three deaths reported today involve men ages 36 to 81, with a history of illness.

Two of the fatalities were in Sabah, while the other was in Johor, Dr. Noor Hisham said.

“To date, there are 106 cases under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of which 53 are intubated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the first of the three new groups is the Jalan Rusa group in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, which involves a residential area where 129 people have tested positive in 1,267 people so far.

The second group, the Tapak Bina Pasifik group, involves Kuala Lumpur’s Lembah Pantai district, which was identified on December 12 after tests conducted at a construction site saw 17 people testing positive for the virus.

The third group, the Maringkan group, involves the Telupid and Ranau districts in Sabah, with 11 cases, he said.
