KUALA LUMPUR: The third meeting of the third term of the XIV Parliament was postponed today sine die, after sitting for 29 days from November 2, with 10 bills presented and passed, including the Supply Bill 2021.

In this session, the Finance Bill 2020 was also approved; Temporary measures for government funding (Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) (Amendment) Bill 2020; Customs (Amendment) Bill 2020; and Excise (Amendment) Act 2020.

Free Zones (Amendment) Bill 2020; Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020; Service Tax (Amendment) Act 2020; Tourism Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020; and the Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill 2020.

Meanwhile, the second and third reading of five bills initially scheduled for today in the Dewan Rakyat have been postponed to the next session, based on Permanent Decree Number 62 of Parliament.

The bills are the 2020 Windfall Tax Bill (Amendment); Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Bill 2020; Factories and Machinery (Repeal) Bill 2020; Malaysia Space Board Bill 2020; and the Bill of the Independent Police Conduct Commission 2020.

Presenting the 2020 Draft Law on Temporary Measures for Government Financing (Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) (Amendment) for second reading today, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said it involved an additional expense of RM20 thousand millions.

“The estimated additional expenditure involves RM14 billion to cover the supply of Bantuan Prihatin Nasional; RM4 billion to cover expenses related to Covid-19; the need to expand the Grant Program (RM 1.5 billion) and the provision of Prihatin Special Grants (RM 500 million), ”he said.

During the debate session on the bill, Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) suggested that all the incentives mentioned in the bill be channeled from January next year.

Deputy Finance Minister Abd Rahim Bakri, introducing the 2020 Sales Tax Bill (Amendment) and the 2020 Service Tax (Amendment) Bill, said they aimed to strengthen the implementation of the sales tax sales.

At the end of today’s session, Dewan Rakyat Chairman Azhar Azizan Harun thanked all MPs for their participation in the meeting.

He also thanked all government officials, especially Parliament staff and media professionals, for ensuring that procedures ran smoothly this time amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

“As we know, since there was an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, several changes had to be made during the session to ensure our health and safety,” he said, while praying for the good health of all parties involved. .

Azhar also took the opportunity to wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all MPs and Parliament staff who held the events, as well as apologize for instances where he may have been rude, disrespectful or raised his voice during the session.
