PETALING JAYA: Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim has volunteered to be the first person in his constituency to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

“My reason for this is to give the people of Pasir Gudang in Johor and all of Malaysia the confidence that the vaccine that the Ministry of Health will use is safe,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Let us fight the pandemic together and regain our freedom, independence and way of life,” said the PKR man.

The government signed agreements with Pfizer and the Covax Facility global last month to obtain Covid-19 vaccines for up to 30% of the population.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin also said there were plans to increase purchases of the vaccine to meet the immunization needs of up to 70% of Malaysians.

Prior to this, Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin, declaring himself war chief, volunteered to be the first Malaysian to be tested with the vaccine.

“I offer to be the first person to be tested with the vaccine. I am not afraid because I want to be healthy. Let the warchief be the first to get it, ”he said recently in the Dewan Rakyat.
