Jurgen Klopp responds to José Mourinho and believes that Liverpool ‘really deserved’ the victory

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool was worth their win over Tottenham, as the Reds went three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

And the coach said 19-year-old Rhys Williams’ contribution as a central defender was “enormously important” to a great victory in the clash at the top of the table.

Williams replaced the injured Joel Matip after a back problem ruled him out and the teenager was impressive in his first Premier League start.

After Heung-min Son canceled Mohamed Salah’s opener, Roberto Firmino headed home in injury time to extend an unbeaten streak at Anfield to 66 games.

Klopp said, “That’s a little early [to talk about the title] but a difficult period, a really difficult period is coming, but one that we have already been through and playing a game like this tonight is absolutely exceptional.

“I play hard, I deserved three points against a high team. Organization-wise, it’s very difficult to play against them with the threat of counter attack they have. So I really liked the game.

“Rhys couldn’t defend alone, but he was a great part and he did a very good job.

“So it’s very good for him. Obviously it was a late decision. [to pick him] because with Joel, we didn’t know exactly what would happen and things like that, but Rhys did very well and that’s hugely important to us. “

Klopp said his champions deserved the three points against Tottenham after his coach, José Mourinho, insisted that the best team had lost with his team fully satisfied to play on the fast break at Anfield.

“I really think we deserved all three points,” Klopp added. “Of course Tottenham had chances and I know they scored a goal with a tight offside decision.

“I really do not know [if it was onside] and they had other opportunities. You cannot defend Harry Kane for 90 minutes.

“With Son and Bergwijn, the speed they have is incredible, but right now we were completely in charge of the game.

“We stayed focused and counter pressure well, our passing was good and of course not all of our efforts led to a goal, but we had to create suitable chances because they defend deep in the area with all the balls high.

“We needed to be creative and we were created.

“We forced the first goal a bit and the second with a set piece is really good because we don’t have much time to work on things or we take the time to work on set pieces correctly and that worked in the end. “
