KUALA LUMPUR: Eight police officers have been arrested and charged from November 25 to December 15 this year for various crimes, says Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin.

Among the crimes was desertion, in the case of a policeman who had not reported for duty since October 27.

Another case highlighted by Comm Saiful was the arrest of three policemen who had extorted 10,000 ringgit from a victim.

He said the trio was chasing a car carrying three men, which came after the vehicle stopped at Jalan Imbi on December 7.

“Two suspects escaped but one was arrested. This was videotaped but no arrest record was found, ”he told a press conference at the contingent’s headquarters here on Wednesday (December 16).

The three police officers involved were later arrested.

Another incident on Dec. 8 saw the arrest of two police officers at a Brickfields hotel following a narcotics bust.

“Of the four arrested, two were policemen. A weapon was also found in a bag along with a permit to possess a firearm, ”he said, adding that the weapon was purchased in a neighboring country in 2008.

“It is believed that one of the arrested policemen was also a drug dealer and the rest acted as his accomplices,” he said.
