KUCHING: The upper torso of a body that was found floating in a river in Kampung Meranek, Kota Samarahan this morning has been identified as Mohammad Razid Hamran, 27, who has been reported missing since December 14.

The deceased is believed to have been the victim of a crocodile attack while searching for river snails in the area.

The identity of the deceased was confirmed by the Kota Samarahan District Police Chief DSP Sudirman Kram.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said that the body of the deceased was found 1 km upstream from his improvised operations center around 10.35 am

Meanwhile, the disappearance of the deceased was reported to the police on the night of December 15 after he failed to return home.

He was last seen collecting river snails around 11 p.m. on December 14 and would normally return home around 4 a.m.

During the search on December 15, the deceased’s boat was found abandoned near a bridge in the area.

This morning, Bomba along with the villagers resumed the search around 9 a.m., leading to the discovery of the body.

Personnel from the Bomba, Police, Civil Defense Force, the People’s Volunteer Corps and 39 residents participated in the operation. -theborneopost.com
