PETALING JAYA: The Finance Ministry has approved 2.3 million new applications and appeals from Malaysians for Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN).

“The Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has completed its review of the new BPN applications and appeals.

Therefore, I am pleased to announce that 2.3 million new applications and appeals for BPN have been approved, with a cumulative total payout of RM1.7bil.

“The public can check the status of their BPN applications and appeals beginning May 9 via bpn.hasil.gov.my,” its Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz (pic) said in a statement on Saturday (May 9).

Previously, the Finance Ministry had announced that new applications and appeals for BPN would be opened from April 1 to 30 to ensure the aid would reach those who are eligible and truly in need.

Tengku Zafrul said it would be paid to eligible recipients in a single payout beginning May 15.

“With the approval of these new applications and appeals, the total number of BPN recipients currently stands at 10.6 million, with a cumulative total disbursement of RM11bil,” he said, adding that there was an increase of RM1bil on top of the initial allocation of RM10bil.

He said the government hoped that the BPN would benefit the rakyat and ease their burdens during this challenging period.
