JOHOR BARU: Johor Department of Education, Larkin Public Market (Photo) and Medan Selera Larkin have been ordered to close for a week after the detection of Covid-19 cases.

The director of the State Department of Health, Datuk Dr. Aman Rabu, confirmed the matter when contacted on Wednesday (December 16).

He added that the order to close the premises was to ensure that preventive and control measures could be taken immediately.

“Based on the screening tests carried out, a state Department of Education staff and a Larkin public market worker were found to have tested positive for Covid-19.

“The closure order, which will last for a week, was made after an official from the Department of Health conducted an evaluation at the facilities,” he added.

The notices at the facilities said the shutdown order was made under Subsection 18 (1) (f) of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 1988.

The notices indicated that the state Department of Education was closed at 11 a.m. Wednesday, while the public market and Medan Selera Larkin were closed at 5 p.m.

They are expected to restart operations on December 22.

Dr. Aman said the temporary closure would allow for cleanup work and screening of other people involved.

He also reminded the public to always follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the new rule to curb the spread of Covid-19.
