Nearly 10,000 citations issued for fancy license plates

JOHOR BAHRU (Bernama): Johor Police issued 9,985 citations to motorists for using non-compliant license plates from January through Tuesday (December 15).

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that more operations will be carried out under Op Khas from today until December 31 to crack down on non-compliant motorists.

“Anyone using fancy numbers, change quickly … don’t wait until we act,” he told reporters after visiting the traffic citation payment counters at the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters here today.

Meanwhile, he said that a total of RM9.6 million traffic citations had not been resolved from 2000 to November 30.

He said that, for the period, a total of RM13.39 million citations were recorded, with the payment of fines made up of RM3.6 million.

Ayob Khan said that most of the citations issued were for traffic violations under the Automatic Enforcement System (AES).

He said those with pending citations are urged to take advantage of the 50% discount offered by Johor’s Contingent Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department from today until December 31, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

It added that a total of RM152,720 was collected in traffic citations on the first day of the discount offer, involving a total of 1,050 people. – Bernama
