KUALA LUMPUR: A 10-day monitoring and observation period will be considered for those currently in 14-day quarantine, said Director General of Health Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the Health Ministry will conduct tests on the eighth and ninth day of quarantine, for a possible release of the patient on the tenth day.

The mandatory 14-day quarantine period has been reduced to 10 days from today for travelers arriving from abroad and those undergoing close contact management.

Noor Hisham also said that the Covid-19 infection rate from September 12 to December 15 had been successfully reduced to 1.1 following the implementation of the partial closures under a conditional movement control order.

“We started with an R0 of 2.2. If there had been no CMCO, (up to) four million citizens would have been infected. But the CMCO successfully lowered the R0 value to 1.1, ”he said.
