PETALING JAYA: Rohingya organizations in Malaysia have rejected a news report alleging that a Rohingya group based in the country was planning a terrorist attack in several cities in India.

The Coalition of Rohingya Organizations in Malaysia also expressed concern that the accusations would make the Rohingya community even more vulnerable.

Yesterday, the Times of India newspaper reported that Indian intelligence agencies are believed to have intercepted financial transactions, suggesting that a Malaysia-based Rohingya group may be in an advanced stage of orchestrating a terrorist attack in that country.

The group is said to be led by a woman.

But the Rohingya coalition said that Rohingya refugees in Malaysia simply possessed documents issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and that there was no possibility that the alleged financial transactions were carried out “by any means”.

The coalition said the accusations were absolutely false and without foundation.

He called for severe action by the Malaysian authorities against those involved in terrorism or who spread conspiracies to create unrest.

The Times of India said that a group trained in Myanmar could attempt an attack on an Indian city in the coming weeks. Possible targets mentioned were Ayodhya, Bodhgaya, Srinagar and Punjab.

The newspaper cited an intelligence document that claimed that a series of suspicious transactions targeting India amounting to more than RM820,000 (15 million Indian rupees) had been attributed to a Kuala Lumpur-based Rohingya leader and others.
