Selangor is still a red zone, says the chairman of the Covid-19 task force.

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Covid-19 Working Group has advised the public to postpone any travel plans back to their places of origin, following the increase in Covid-19 cases in the state.

Its director, Dzulkefly Ahmad, said that Selangor remained a red zone, with 90% of new cases yesterday related to the workplace.

“The main reason for the increase in Selangor is the Seruling and Hentian groups, while the remainder are not related to groups or ‘unpleasant cases’ that occur sporadically in the community.

“It is important that the people of Selangor resist the temptation to return to their places of origin across district or state borders, because they can bring back the virus,” he said in a statement.

The former health minister also introduced a new program under the state’s Covid-19 task force, in which he would work alongside employers to create “internal bubbles” and restrict movements to slow the spread of the virus in the workplace.

Selangor recorded 829 new infections today, 685 of which were detected in existing groups and close contact examinations on the ground. Yesterday, there were 1,428 cases, which represents more than half of the national total.

The Health Ministry had said it expected cases in the state to remain high, after widespread screening of foreign workers is underway.
