5 new Covid-19 clusters detected

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected five new Covid-19 clusters in the country during the last 24 hours.

In a statement tonight, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said one group was from Selangor, two from Kuala Lumpur and two from Johor.

These are the Jalan Bukit construction site group in Selangor; the Condong construction site and the Jalan Stadium construction site clusters in Kuala Lumpur; and the groups of Jalan Dalam and Tenun Merah from Johor.

The index case of the Jalan Bukit construction site group affecting Hulu Langat, Selangor was a worker who tested positive after showing symptoms on December 2.

After that, workplace evaluations conducted by the employer found another 46 positive cases. As of December 10, 109 people had been examined.

Meanwhile, positive cases from the Condong construction site group involving Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa, and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur were detected during workplace assessments conducted from December 6.

291 people were tested, of which 15 tested positive so far.

At the Jalan Stadium cluster of construction sites involving Lembah Pantai and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, Noor Hisham said positive cases have been reported since December 4 during specific screenings at the construction site.

So far, 97 people have been examined. There are currently 15 positive cases from the cluster.

On the conglomerates in Johor, he said that the Jalan Dalam conglomerate involving Kulai, Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru was first detected after an individual tested positive during symptomatic tests on December 7. Since then, 108 people have been tested and 13 have tested positive.

Meanwhile, the Tenun Merah group involving Batu Pahat has a total of 23 positive test cases involving 287 people.

It was first detected on December 7 after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual exams.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said there were three groups that finished today. These were the Merbok group in Selangor and the Lintas and Telipok groups in Sabah.

This brings to 187 the total number of active clusters being monitored across the country.

Noor Hisham added that the groups reporting the highest number of new cases in the last 24 hours were the Seruling group (843 cases), the Hentian group (315), and the Tembok group (104).
