CD Projekt Red to address Cyberpunk 2077 epilepsy triggers

The review embargo for Cyberpunk 2077 was lifted yesterday. In addition to its standard review, Game Informer also published a public service announcement about the game’s epilepsy triggers. This seems to have reached the developers at CD Projekt Red and the company has responded to this issue.

In the tweet, CDPR says it is working to add an additional activation warning in addition to that of the EULA. The development team is also working on a more permanent solution. Once one is found, it will be implemented as soon as possible.

For a game like Cyberpunk 2077, it is very strange that the only epilepsy trigger warning is in the EULA. Take, for example, Ubisoft. The editor adds trigger warnings to many of its games at startup, even when the only flashing lights players will see is the flash of the gun barrel. So you would think that CDPR would have something similar for a game with nightclubs and more importantly their Braindance starter sequence.

But regardless, this is a step in the right direction. As for the more permanent solution, this could involve an option to dim or turn off the flashing lights in sequences where they are prominent. But we will have to wait for another announcement to know for sure.
