KUALA LUMPUR: Four men were charged in Magistrates Court today with murdering former Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) researcher Wan Hassan Wan Embong at his home two weeks ago.

Ravindran Manimurasu, Kogilan Panniselvam, Sugu Thangarajoo and Vickeswaran Selvach Santhiran were jointly charged with committing the crime in the early morning hours of November 29 in Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar.

They will face the death penalty if found guilty. All four indicated that they understood the charge after it was read to them.

Judge Wong Chai Sia set March next year as the next mention date.

Meanwhile, in the Court of Sessions, the four pleaded not guilty to robbing a 33-year-old man in Taman Tiara Titiwangsa, Setapak, on the same day. They were charged with robbing the man 38,000 ringgit with a parang, a knife and a hammer.

Judge Izralizam Sanusi did not offer bail to the four and set March 9 as the next date of mention.

Previously, the police said they had arrested a total of 13 people for Wan Hassan’s death.

The investigator was reportedly stabbed with a parang when he tried to fight the thieves who broke in through the kitchen window of his two-story bungalow around 3.30 a.m.

His wife, Sarifah Yusof, suffered cut injuries to her right hand.
